CANDACRAIG, THE PERFECT PLACE FOR A MULTIGENERATIONAL FAMILY GATHERING

Jo Rodgers and family discover the importance of multigenerational travel in Scotland

Last June, we had the pleasure to host journalist Jo Rodgers and her family for a few days at Candacraig.

Living on different continents and kept apart by the pandemic, Jo had not seen her parents and siblings for a few years... Finally, they all came together at Candacraig, just weeks before Jo's due date.

Candacraig is the perfect haven for a family gathering, there is something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age, ability or inclination! Candacraig's spacious rooms, huge fireplaces, cosy sofas allow for lovely, long, lazy afternoons, spent playing cards, reading or just hanging out. The walled garden is an ideal suntrap for long lunches and our manicured lawn is ideal for small children to enjoy outdoor games.

Jo's family's favourite afternoon involved a picnic prepared by Chef Mark Heirs and served on the back of a Land Rover on the wild moors surrounding Candacraig, an unforgettable setting. Another brilliant morning saw the family venture off with Annie Armstrong of Wild Braemar to the River Don, to experience the exhilarating thrill of cold water swimming. On another day, the family took the short Land Rover drive to Tomintoul distillery, only half an hour from Candacraig, to visit one of the last few remaining independent distilleries for a private tour and tasting.

If there is one thing the last few years have reminded us all about is the importance of time spent making precious memories with those we love. There is simply no better holiday.
