Our Biomass Heating System - Leading The Way in Sustainable Practices

When we purchased Candacraig in 2014 the heating was powered by a combination of oil central heating and electric storage heaters. This meant we were paying large heating bills for a system that was not having a positive impact on the environment.

We quickly realised the installation of a biomass heating system was fundamental to our sustainability mission. It was one of the first major developments we undertook.

The biomass fuel is obtained from natural organic matter, in our case wood chips sourced locally. It supplies heat and hot water to eight properties on our Candacraig grounds.

The house is warm and snug at all times and the thick granite walls hold the heat, therefore reducing the need to increase the heating.

Nowadays our business ethos is to focus specifically on renewable heating and energy, along with sustainability in general. We assure our guests a wonderful cosy and comfortable stay at Candacraig.
