The Wild Lochan is a heaven for biodiversity

At the bottom of our garden, directly feeding from the River Don, is our magical wild lochan.

As part of our commitment to rewilding and conservation, we have chosen to let the flora and fauna, that have long occupied this space, thrive undisturbed. (There are some very large trout in there...)

Sitting on the banks of the lochan is one of Candacraig's most relaxing moments, and one where our guests can feel fully connected with the nature around them.

For those who instead prefer to engage more actively in water sports, we can suggest some wonderful experiences. Whilst staying at Candacraig, our guests can take advantage of our two rods on the River Don, famous for brown trout fly fishing. Alternatively, we can arrange a booking on nearby fishing beats, including on the majestic River Dee, with expert ghillies providing equipment and tuition.

For the adventurous sporty types, we work with expert guides and offer wild swimming, paddling, SUP, and white water rafting. Nothing beats an active day near or on the water and a return to Candacraig, to enjoy a warming sauna and a dram by our large fireplaces.
